Investment Offerings

In addition to a number of private investment funds organized and managed by Willis Investment Counsel and offered to a limited number of accredited investors, we offer multi-cap equity, fixed income, and balanced portfolio investment strategies for our clients:

WIC Multi-Cap Equity Portfolio

WIC multi-cap equity portfolios consist of approximately 35 to 50 broadly diversified, multi-cap common stocks, with the investment objective of achieving long-term, above-market returns with below-market risk. The investment strategy of the portfolio seeks to take advantage of the capital appreciation potential of companies whose stock prices are discounted relative to our proprietary calculation of their intrinsic value. Additional factors such as financial strength, sustained profitability, and competitive position in essential industries are considered in tandem with valuation in selecting individual securities.

WIC Fixed Income Portfolio

WIC fixed income portfolios are well-diversified bond portfolios generally consisting of investment grade or near-investment grade bonds with intermediate to short-term maturities. Bonds are employed for those clients whose investment objectives include a reliable income stream and reduced portfolio volatility afforded by bonds. Our investment strategies for WIC bond portfolios include capitalizing on the comparatively higher yields generally provided by investment grade corporate bonds, as well as avoiding realized losses at disposition or maturity.

WIC Balanced Portfolio

WIC balanced portfolios include combinations of stocks and bonds, with the allocation to bonds being driven by each client's tolerance for risk and portfolio volatility. The stocks in our balanced portfolios include 35 to 50 broadly diversified, multi-cap common stocks whose stock prices are discounted relative to our proprietary calculation of their intrinsic value. The bonds in our balanced portfolios are tilted in favor of investment grade or near-investment grade with intermediate to short-term maturities. The investment strategy of our balanced portfolios seeks to take advantage of the capital appreciation potential of stocks and the higher yields and risk mitigation effects of corporate bonds.

WIC Income Strategy

The WIC income strategy is an all-equity strategy with two primary investment objectives:  1) maximizing portfolio cash flow yield, and 2) minimizing downside portfolio volatility.  Portfolio cash flow yield is maximized by investing in relatively high quality, high dividend-yielding equities and selling “out-of-the-money” covered call options against those equities.  Portfolio construction and equity selection focus on historical records of dividends paid, as well as probability and sustainability of dividend growth.  Downside portfolio volatility is maximized by 1) maintaining  a portfolio with a relatively low weighted average downside beta and below-market standard deviation, 2) selling covered call options to further suppress downside volatility, and 3) investing principally in companies with stable financial performance, and investment grade profile, an attractive price relative to our proprietary calculation of intrinsic value, and accommodative trading liquidity.

Corporate Cash Management

For corporations, non-profit organizations, and other institutions that maintain significant cash balances and cash reserves, proper management of such assets can yield returns over time that contribute meaningfully to profitability and asset growth. Willis Investment Counsel has developed strategies for the short- and intermediate-term investment of corporate and institutional cash that are designed to meaningfully increase asset yield and generate income, while protecting capital and maintaining liquidity.
